		<title>World&#039;s worst and weirdest field trips</title>

		<description><![CDATA[In science, the term 'field work' does not apply exclusively to work done in a literal field - where the deer and the antelope play.  It is a name given to any work done away from the lab, and most usually in an outdoor location.  It often requires travel to a remote and exotic locale, or simply to the closest sewage farm, and nearly always involves difficulty, drama and a bit of hardship.  If it doesn't, it isn't really 'field work', and you might as well have stayed home.]]></description>

<p>In the next week or so, we&#8217;ll be releasing some informal guidelines on a competition to find science&#8217;s worst and weirdest field trips.</p>
<p>Put your thinking caps on, polish up those tall tales.  Pretty soon you&#8217;ll have an opportunity to regale the world with your stories of fossil collection, star-gazing, butterfly catching, and quite possibly, poop, entrails and mud.  Come back soon for more details.</p>
